UMass Amherst Computer Science Labs

Last week we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the new Computer Science Laboratories at UMass Amherst!
The project advances the University's goal of sustainable, connected growth as the first building on campus to earn LEED Platinum certification. The landscape creates a cohesive campus experience while integrating sustainable features including rain gardens, extensive tree planting, pollinator gardens, and pedestrian safety enhancements.
A new maintenance typology replaces regularly mown lawns with ecologically rich plantings, while creative grading and precast bridges navigate steep topography to provide ADA-compliant routes. Designed for both everyday use and large campus events, the landscape offers a variety of gathering spaces including a leveled event lawn, amphitheater, and plazas with lighting and power to encourage informal gathering and collaboration outside.
