Salem, MA

The goal of renovations to Splaine Park is to reinvigorate this isolated neighborhood park by improving access, increasing visibility and security, and accommodating new and diverse uses.  The existing traditional active offerings such as baseball, basketball, and jungle gym are improved to provide quality recreational opportunities and to retain existing users. New programs such as community gardens, a large grass embankment with an in-grade slide occupy the previously vacant edges and attract new users.  A rain garden to capture runoff from impervious play surfacing was introduced as a storm-water solution and a site amenity.
