Mary Jane Lee Park

Salem, MA

Mary Jane Lee Park is an important outdoor space serving a dense urban neighborhood. Crowley Cottrell’s design reduced asphalt and increased green space in the park while adding new areas for active recreation.

Defined zones allow for a range of activities within the park, from small children’s play areas, to basketball for youth, to open green space and a picnic pavillion for families.

A splash pad created a new signature feature for the park along Palmer Street. Its design encourages active play through a colorful patterned surface and interactive water features. During the off-season, this area becomes a community terrace.

This project was funded in part by an Our Common Backyards grant from the Commonwealth’s Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs and a PARC grant.
