Family Housing Village

UMass Amherst

This P3 Housing development replaces outdated graduate student and faculty housing while prioritizing the preservation of the site’s mature, high-value trees. Throughout design and construction, our team worked closely with our collaborators to ensure that these trees shaped the layout of the site. Within this framework, the prefabricated townhouses are arranged to support both community life and walkability. Each unit has front and back entries, while rear parking lots are discreetly tucked away, so the front doors face a central green. This orientation acknowledges its residents’ desire to walk to campus while garnering a safe, car-free setting for daily life. The green itself serves as the community’s shared backyard, featuring amenities built to a high standard of accessibility. Together, the preserved trees and thoughtful site planning create a welcoming, pedestrian-oriented neighborhood where families and students can thrive.
