Marsh View Retreat
Private Residence
Perched above the streets of a historic New England neighborhood, this residence enjoys magnificent views of the salt marsh beyond. The dramatic grade change is directly navigated by a grand set of bluestone steps embedded in native plantings, while sloping grass paths accommodate less mobile visitors. Historic bricks uncovered during the demolition of an existing chimney were thoughtfully reused in the walkway to the newly defined parking area, offering a tangible link to the site’s history. The upper bluestone terrace captures a long view along the western side of the marsh, framed by large existing pine trees. The lower terrace is easily accessible through exterior stairs or the walkout basement and highlights a more intimate view of the marsh. Long curvilinear stone walls flank the lower side of the property while native trees, shrubs, and meadow envelop the space, creating the perfect place to gather around a fire and enjoy the view.
