Hovey Park
City of Lowell
For the city of Lowell’s first fully accessible playground, we designed a half-mile walking loop that weaves through the earthen mounds in which the playground is nestled. Exemplifying our approach to universal design, this playground not only creates opportunities for people with mobility and sensory deficiencies to play, but it allows them to play WITH everyone else. Beyond the walking paths, accessible slide, and at-grade spinner, the climbing structure also offers a wheelchair-accessible interior with a transfer platform and rope-based play elements. The large platform structure is fully accessible at all levels. A nest swing allows for transfer and for multiple children to swing together. The picnic tables all have inclusive seating.
