Lincoln House
Lincoln Institute of Land Policy
In response to the need for expanded office space, Lincoln Institute of Land Policy undertook an addition and historic preservation project for its headquarters in Cambridge. The Brattle Street building, located adjacent to the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow House, is a Colonial Revival residence built in 1887 for Longfellow’s daughter, Edith Longfellow, and her husband, Richard Henry Dana. The landscape design included a reconfigured parking layout, an accessible bluestone walkway and seating area at the rear entrance, a small meeting and reflection space, new planting, site lighting, and the resurfacing of a gravel driveway with permeable pavers. Contemporary in material, the permeable pavers recall traditional cobblestones while modeling the Institute’s commitment to green infrastructure and providing an accessible route to the building.
