Westport Woods
Westport LCT
At the headwaters of the East branch of the Westport River, this 80-acre youth camp was abandoned for decades before the Westport Land Conservation Trust was given the opportunity to purchase and preserve the property. Since the property was the largest undertaking of this local land trust, they approached us for a vision of its potential future as a multi-use natural recreation area. Once the land trust chose to implement the vision, they again turned to us for further detailing on an as needed basis. The full vision includes areas for outdoor concerts and events, a natural playground, a seasonal skating area, a woodland garden, picnic areas, a gymnasium, new offices for the land trust, and over 60 acres of woodlands and wetlands with hiking trails. Phase 1 includes the removal of camp buildings, the establishment of a carriage road, and the definition of meadow areas.
