Flaherty Park
Boston Parks
Following a community engagement process, our team at Crowley Cottrell developed a design for Flaherty Park that integrates new play structures for children alongside exercise equipment for adults. Our design reorganizes the space to have areas of meaningful free and natural play, moving away from a design dominated by centralized steel equipment. New paving and structures were carefully organized to maintain the existing tree canopy, which provides shade and respite in this dense urban neighborhood. Our robust engagement with the community, who pushed the city for natural materials, led us to achieve the first wooden playground in the district. We worked with the manufacturer to customize these wooden structures that greater emphasize the natural elements of the park. Further amenities include a splash pad, drinking fountain, storm water management, furnishings, equipment, and planting.
