Crowley Cottrell led the community design process for the reinvention of Lafayette Park in Salem. Previously a large traffic island surrounded by busy roads, the park held the potential to become a symbolic gateway to downtown. Public engagement—including an online survey with over 300 respondents, working group meetings, and an open house—revealed that, despite its reputation, the space is valued as a green oasis. The resulting design clarified circulation, improved visibility, and created a setting that highlights memorials while leaving ample room for programming.
