As part of a full renovation and new addition to Topsfield’s historic town hall, the site was reconfigured to provide an enriched user experience. Prior to these improvements, this hub of local activity was no longer serving the public due to its failing circulation, parking, and accessibility. Although situated on the picturesque Town Common, the building’s landscape had become cluttered with independent planting projects, creating random gardens along its base. Our design team created new parking and accessible entrances to the building and its new addition, with a simplified planting palate that better cooperates with the architecture. Historic sensitivity was required for the additions to the historic building and its interface with the adjacent town commons.
