Dow Street
North Shore CDC
Located in Salem’s densely developed Point neighborhood, this building's courtyard offers a unique opportunity to provide green space to its residents. Alongside a full building renovation, our team at Crowley Cottrell transformed this once underutilized courtyard into a safe, community-oriented space. The design removes failing combined stormwater/ sewer infrastructure, provides easy and accessible circulation, offers areas for respite and gathering, and provides a breath of life through native tree and shrub additions. The courtyard further boasts the only sculptural pieces of art within the NSCDC’s Punto Urban Art Museum. The artist, Ruben Ubiera, built the three columns with the help of other local artists and kids. The portraits on the columns feature former residents of the building.
