Peabody Parklet
City of Peabody
Street life on Peabody’s Main Street has suffered for decades as retail activity shifted to shopping malls on the edge of town. To reimagine downtown and create new opportunities for public gathering, the City of Peabody commissioned the design of this pop-up parklet. The parklet was conceived as a modular system that can be easily reconfigured, relocated, and installed. YouthBuild, a local public service and job training program for young adults, constructed the modules using recycled pallets and donated materials. The initial three-day installation proved so popular that the city extended it for an additional week. Well received by Main Street shop owners, the parklet has since been rented and relocated in front of local businesses for special events.
