The goal of the Splaine Park renovation was to reinvigorate this isolated neighborhood park by improving access, increasing visibility and security, and accommodating new and diverse uses. Existing recreational amenities—including baseball, basketball, and playground equipment—were upgraded to provide high-quality opportunities that continue to serve longtime users. New program elements, such as community gardens and a large grass embankment with an in-grade slide, activate previously underutilized edges and attract new users. A rain garden that captures runoff from impervious play surfacing was introduced as both a stormwater management strategy and a site amenity.
